Staff at The Medical Center of Aurora collected and delivered 300 food bags by ambulance today to Rocky Mountain Youth Clinics, a non-profit organization that provides integrated health care and support services – including a food pantry – to over 23,000 infants and youth in metro Denver and across Colorado.
“As health care providers, we know that proper nutrition is critical to good health, especially for infants and youth. Each year, Rocky Mountain Youth Clinics provides food to thousands of families who are struggling financially or who have children who are failing to grow at a healthy rate due to lack of proper nutrition,” said Executive Director Jessica Dunbar. “We salute the staff at The Medical Center of Aurora for their commitment to the community and for such a huge and generous show of support with today’s food bag donations, which will help hundreds of local families.”
The food drive is the latest example of a long and productive partnership between Rocky Mountain Youth Clinics and the Medical Center of Aurora. RMYC pediatricians provide care for newborns at the hospital and hospital employees have conducted numerous campaigns to provide books and food for RMYC patients. In addition, RMYC and the hospital coordinate care for many local patients and their families.
About Rocky Mountain Youth Clinics: Rocky Mountain Youth Clinics is a non-profit organization that provides accessible, affordable, high-quality health care and support programs to children across Colorado, regardless of their family’s insurance status or ability to pay. During its 20-year history, RMYC has grown from a single clinic to one of the largest pediatric health practices in Colorado, serving more than 23,000 infants and youth at three medical offices and nine school-based health centers in Metro Denver, Fort Collins, the west slope and southwest Colorado. Our experienced professionals focus on meeting all of the child’s health needs with medical and dental care, behavioral health counseling and healthy lifestyle programs. We also partner with dozens of organizations to connect kids and families to the services they need. More than 85% of our patients live in low-income households. In 2016, RMYC provided more than $800,000 of health care services to more than 1,700 uninsured patients whose families were unable to pay for care. More information is available at rmyclinics.org.
