Please join us in congratulating Dr. Sheela Mahnke on her appointment to City Council for the City of Westminster! Dr. Mahnke is a pediatrician on staff at Every Child Pediatrics who has been caring for patients in our Thornton office since 2014. Last year, while studying for a master degree program, Dr. Mahnke decided to get more involved in her community to promote health and wellbeing at a broader level. A longtime resident of Westminster, Dr. Mahnke joined the City of Westminster Environmental Advisory Board and became exposed to the work of City Council and the exciting work being done across various aspects of urban infrastructure to promote a healthy community. She learned about the impact that can be made at the city level and applied for a vacant seat on the City Council. In December 2018, Dr. Mahnke was appointed to the 1-year City Council position and she plans to run for the office later this year.
“I’m really excited about the chance to serve the city and to make an impact in the community,” Dr. Mahnke said, adding that she wants to focus on all the ways the city can help children and families be healthy and to feel welcomed.
Dr. Mahnke has an undergraduate degree in Biology from Duke University, a medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and completed her pediatric residency training at Yale New Haven Hospital. She is a member of the Colorado Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Mahnke also has completed the training for the Urban Prairies Project as a Restoration Master Volunteer through the Parks and Open Space Department.
